Supported group programs and activities where you build skills, confidence and friendships alongside other people.
NDIS group activities in Adelaide let you learn, create and socialise with other people, with support workers on hand. Kindora Connect is a Registered NDIS Provider registered for group and centre activities, so you can try something new in a friendly group rather than on your own.
Group programs suit people who enjoy company and want a regular social routine. If you would rather have a worker with just you, see our NDIS community participation support.
Many groups meet at local community centres and libraries, such as the Community Hub in Para Hills, the library and recreation centre in Ingle Farm or the recreation centre in Golden Grove. We can support you to get there and take part.
What kinds of group activities can you join?
Group programs are built around shared interests. Examples of the kinds of activities a group program can include:
- arts, crafts and music
- cooking and life skills sessions
- games, social afternoons and outings
- exercise, walking and gentle movement
- skills for work, study or getting around the community
Contact us to hear about the groups currently running and the days they meet. We will help you find one that suits your interests and support needs.
Who are group and centre activities for?
Group activities suit people who want company, routine and new skills in a supported setting. For example:
- you want to make friends with people who share your interests
- you have finished school and want a regular weekly activity
- you feel more confident trying new things with others around you
- your family wants you to have a social life that does not depend on them
How are group activities funded under the NDIS?
Group activities are usually funded from your core supports budget, under assistance with social and community participation. The NDIS says this category has funding when one of your goals is to get involved in group or social activities and events.
Because core funding is flexible, you can often use it for a mix of group and one-to-one support. Costs such as materials or entry to an outing may be your own, and we tell you about them upfront.
Your group sessions, the support ratio and the costs are set out in your service agreement before you start.
What does a typical group session look like?
You arrive and a support worker welcomes you and helps you settle in. The group might start with a chat about the week, then move into the main activity, such as a cooking session where everyone makes part of a shared lunch.
Workers help people who need it, whether that is with the activity itself, personal care or joining the conversation. At the end, you might help pack up and plan what the group does next time.
How do we keep group activities safe and welcoming?
Before you join, we ask about your interests, support needs and anything that helps you feel comfortable in a group. We look at whether a group is the right fit and suggest a trial session if you are unsure.
Group activities are delivered in line with the NDIS Practice Standards. Workers hold an NDIS Worker Screening Check and First Aid and CPR. Read choosing disability support services in Adelaide for questions to ask any provider.
