Daily personal support for complex health-related needs, by workers trained and competent in the specific support you need.
High intensity personal care under the NDIS is daily support for complex, health-related needs, such as catheter care, enteral feeding or complex bowel care. Kindora Connect is a Registered NDIS Provider in Adelaide registered for assistance with high intensity daily personal activities. Every worker who supports you is trained for the specific support you need.
For everyday help with showering, dressing and grooming, see our NDIS personal care page. This page is for support that carries higher risk and needs specific skills.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission lists these as high intensity daily personal activities:
Registered providers can only deliver the high intensity activities set out in their certificate of registration. Tell us which support you need and we will confirm whether we can provide it before anything is arranged.
It suits participants whose daily routine includes health-related tasks that need specific training to do safely. For example:
Support with daily personal activities is usually funded from your core supports budget, under assistance with daily life. Make sure your plan reflects the level of support you need, and talk to your support coordinator if it does not.
Some needs are also disability-related health supports. Your plan may fund a nurse or other qualified practitioner to assess your needs and train the workers who support you.
We agree the tasks, the training and the costs with you in a service agreement before support starts.
Your routine is written into a plan you help create, with advice from your health professionals. A worker who has been trained for your specific support arrives at the agreed time and follows that plan, for example preparing and giving a feed through your PEG.
They record what they did, watch for signs that something has changed, and follow your plan for who to contact if it does.
Providers supporting people who rely on high intensity daily personal activities must make sure their workers have the skills and knowledge in the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors. Training relates to each participant's needs and is delivered by an appropriately qualified health practitioner or a person who meets the descriptor.
You are involved in developing the plan for your support, and with your consent your health is reviewed regularly by an appropriately qualified health practitioner. For nursing tasks, see our NDIS community nursing service.
